Fireworks shows open to the public

TWO public bonfires and fireworks displays have been confirmed for next week.

Following the banning of Robin Hood’s Bay’s scout bonfire on Kingston Field, Fylingdales School has stepped in to host an event on their playing field on Thursday.

Entry is 1 with fireworks starting at 8pm and refreshments will be available.

And Skinningrove’s celebrations with a Viking theme will start at 6.30pm.

The 28th Skinningrove Bonfire is part of the Odin’s Glow event organised by Redcar and Cleveland Council.

All decorations have a Viking theme and the bonfire will be a Viking long ship.

Workshops in schools began in September making lantern shields for the bonfire, plus Viking globes and Celtic ravens to decorate lanterns.

One of the schools has also made a Viking ship from green willow.

A series of organza sea-flags which will be mounted on the beach to suggest waves.

Bonfire-building workshops on the beach are from Monday to Wednesday between 10am and midday and 1 to 4pm.

Tomorrow, there will be a painting session of the Viking Ship in the morning and decorations will be made in the afternoon.

If you are running a public display call newsdesk on (01947) 829910 by 10am on Monday so we can publicise your event in Tuesday’s paper.
