Female bikers roar into quiet village
DOZENS of female bikers descended on the Postgate Inn in Egton Bridge last Sunday.
The Curvy Riders Motorcycle Club stopped off in the villahe as part of their first national trip.
Landlord Mark Powell told the Whitby Gazette: “It was quite an amazing sight.
“The car park was just full of bikes.
“They enjoyed Sunday lunch and I had a cake made at Bothams.
“It was good, they were all really friendly and said they’d had a fantastic weekend.
“You do see a lot of bikers but with them all being ladies it was quite intriguing.
“One of the girls was telling me they attract quite a bit of attention wherever they go, as they are on quite powerful bikes and when they take their helmets off and people see they are women it can cause quite a stir.”
Edwina Crummy, a PA in the Scottish Health Service, founded Curvy Riders two years ago and she rides a GSXR 750.
Edwina (32) said the club has around 70 paid up members all over the British Isles and 37 of them took part in the ride to Egton.
“This was our first national trip and I was delighted with the turn-out,” she said.
“I have been biking for around eight years, it’s good fun and it keeps me busy.
“It’s all very light-hearted and we are all totally bonkers about bikes.
“We will definitely be coming back, we had a great welcome and those roads are totally amazing.
“Even our nervous ladies enjoyed it and the challenge really boosted their confidence. We get lots of attention but to be honest we do quite enjoy it.
“People are just curious to see a group of lady bikers.
“The attention is very favourable.”
