Cough, splutter, shiver, yes I like thousands more have got a snotty, fevery cold.
No not the flu and definitely not the man flu I'll leave that to young James, as everything he gets is 10 times worse than anyone else has had it (yeah right).
But no matter like any other time the cows and cattle are very unforgiving.
Last weekend was the worst and it wasn't a new year hangover (that was Friday).
After dragging my sorry backside out of bed I was just hoping that everything would go like clockwork.
Nearly the first cow I saw had done the splits and was thrashing around trying to get back on her feet.
She needed shackles on her back legs, as this would stop one leg sliding away thus enabling her to stand, after a half hour battle I did win, she's now on the mend in a small individual pen.
And so the weekend carried on even the first two lambs perished due to the mother not having any milk, we did bottle feed them but it's no substitute for the mothers own milk.
We had a snap visit from the milk and dairies regulatory body just to make sure everything was up to scratch, clean and tidy.
I do need to take time to get the paperwork back up to date as everything gets shelved for Christmas.
The first batch of suckler calves are now coming up to five months old, they are taking a bit of creep feed, but really do look good, lets hope I can keep them going too sell at turn out for a good price.
One would hope 2009 can only get better, I've been told a small noggin of whisky always helps – purely medicinal of course.
