Daredevil droppers help notch £5,000 - VIDEO

FIFTY brave souls took the plunge 160ft from a platform high above Whitby in aid of the RNLI over goth weekend.

On Saturday the infamous Dracula Drop was back in town with people queuing up to take part in the thrilling bungee jump.

Organisers estimate around 5,000 was raised for the RNLI with people from Leeds, York and Whitby taking part.

Among them, were a large group of students from Leeds University diving club, a team from York St John's University and four work colleagues from Top Image Systems in Leeds who raised 1,000 between them.

Local man Alan Lawson, a member of Whitby International Pirate Society took the plunge for the second time and the town's new RNLI lifeguard, Carl Harris, also did the jump.

Cash raised from the Dracula Drop will go to pay for lifeguard services along the North of England coast.

Events manager for the RNLI for the North, Lisa Rutter, said: "It went absolutely fantastically.

"It was a really great day. Everybody was brilliant and very brave."
