Couple gave chase

A COUPLE whose home was robbed gave chase when they caught the burglar in the act.

The drama happened at around 10.15pm on Tuesday in Whitby’s Clarence Place.

The man and woman were at home at the time of the burglary and as she went into her kitchen, she disturbed a man in his early 20s wearing a black nylon padded type jacket who was stood near her bag.

He ran out of the house stealing her purse containing cash and an iPhone.

The woman ran out of the house and chased him around the back of Belle Vue Terrace where she was joined by her husband who struggled with the burglar, and was pushed to ground before making off down Skinner Street.

But not to be deterred, the woman continued to run after the offender.

The thief then ran past two young men who also chased after him.

He ran into Clarkson Street but was lost by those pursing him.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident.
