Cottage featured in the 'Woof Guide to Britain'
A WHITBY woman with dog-friendly holiday accomodation has made it into a magazine which could be described as the 'Woof Guide to Britain'.
Britain’s best-selling dog magazine Your Dog has published a guide listing the top places for pooches to stay.
The magazine’s special supplement in lists canine-friendly accommodation around the UK.
Jeana Shippey (48) who has six cottages advertises them on dog friendly websites.
She has a dog of her own Rocky, a rottweiler who is two years old.
Her winning cottage is one of only four in Yorkshire to make it into the supplement with the other three being located in Knaresborough, Scarborough and Leyburn.
The Paddock Cottage is dog-friendly with a fully enclosed garden.
Miss Shippey worked for Airtours and was area manager in the Greek Islands ,gaining 13 years experience in the tourism industry before being made redundant.
She came back to her home town of Whitby in 2002 and started her accommodation business.
She says since she found out she was in the magazine three weeks ago she has been inundated with enquiries about her cottages which she says always book up well in advance.
“I did my research when I started; retired people whose children have grown up and left home want to bring their dogs on holiday with them as they enjoy going on long walks.
“I’m really pleased to be in it – it’s been great publicity for me and I’ve seen a flurry of bookings and enquiries about my cottages.”
The magazine will go to vets surgeries and Tourist Information Centres all over the country.
The tester, Joanne, travelled to Whitby with her dog Indi, a golden retriever, and gave the cottage and Whitby rave reviews for its dog friendliness.
She praised Miss Shippey for going the extra mile to ensure both dogs and owners are looked after.
Miss Shippey accepts holidaymakers pets free of charge and provides dog treats, a spare lead and collar, a dog throw, mat and toys. The tester was impressed by this, and a list provided of dog friendly pubs, places to visit and vets. These include The Buck Inn and Beckett’s cafein Whitby and the Bay Hotel, Robin Hood’s Bay, which accepts dogs in the bar.
Paddock Cottage was given an overall star rating of four out of a possible five by the writer who came to test it in January.
