Contract given in shoreline study
GROUND investigations are to take part in Robin Hood's Bay to help secure the long-term future of its shoreline.
The 239,341 Robin Hood’s Bay Coastal Strategy Study is being funded by the Environment Agency and DEFRA.
Scarborough Council is now looking to appoint an experienced contractor to carry out the ground investigation, which will involve the drilling of four boreholes and doing window sampling at identified locations on Mount Pleasant. Six tenders were received and officers have recommended that Geotechnical Limited by approved as the chosen contractor.
The Robin Hood’s Bay Coastal Strategy Study covers ShorelineManagement Plan 2 (SMP2) covers a 24km area of coastline from Abbey Cliffs in Whitby to Hundale Point in Cloughton.
The decision to produce a Coastal Strategy was approved by cabinet on 18 September 2007 and has now reached a stage where aground investigation of Mount Pleasant in Robin Hood’s Bay is needed to take the strategy study forward. The decision to approve Geotechnical is set to be taken today.
