COMMENT ON THIS STORY: Whitby third best resort in Which? guide
WHITBY has made third place in the top all-time favourite UK seaside resorts according to new research by consumer champion Which? Holiday.
In the independent survey of more than 4,000 people Whitby pipped Scarborough which was voted fifth favourite.
The two resorts were singled out for their scenery and proximity to the countryside.
Blackpool was chosen as the nation's all-time favourite seaside resort, with Brighton close behind.
Bournemouth came fourth.
Rochelle Turner, Head of Research for Which? Holiday, said: "Resorts like Whitby and Scarborough have so much to offer and although nobody can guarantee good weather, you can be confident you'll have a great time at the Great British seaside."
Whitby is no stranger to winning top awards.
In 2006, the resort was voted Britain's best seaside resort in a poll of seaside destinations by Holiday Which? - part of the Which? network.
The top 10 were: 1 Blackpool, 2 Brighton, 3 Whitby, 4 Bournemouth, 5 Scarborough, 6 Newquay, 7 Torquay, 8 St Ives, 9 Skegness, 10 Great Yarmouth.
