Chance to see plans for Whitby Sainsbury's store - WHAT DO YOU THINK

SAINSBURY'S is giving Whitby people the opportunity to cast their eye over plans for its new store.

The supermarket giant will be unveiling the design of the store in Stainsacre Lane at a public exhibition next Friday.

It is looking for feedback on the proposals for the 30,000 sq ft store which Sainsbury's claim would create 250 new full and part-time jobs for local people.

Worried over plans for Sainsbury's

How the voting went on Whitby Town Poll Sainsbury's question

The two-day event launches next Friday between 9am and 2pm in the James Cook Theatre at The Coliseum.

The plans will then be displayed the following day between 10am and 3pm at East Whitby Primary School in Stainsacre Lane, near to the site.

Members of the Sainsbury's development team will be on hand to answer any queries that arise.

Jo Try, regional development surveyor at Sainsbury's, said: "This is an important investment opportunity for Whitby in these uncertain times and I would encourage people to come and have a look at the proposals, speak to a member of the team and let us know what they think of the plans.

"The application wouldn't even be submitted until we have considered everyone's comments."

Europower Group Ltd and SPC UK currently occupy the site and Sainsbury's is currently working with them to find re-location sites in Whitby.

The company says no job losses are anticipated.

Since the Whitby Gazette announced Sainsbury's was looking to open in Whitby earlier this year it has caused concern from some that it could drive business out of the town centre.

However, a recent Parish Poll, asking whether Sainsbury's should build a new store off Stainsacre Lane in Whitby, saw 74% of those who answered, say yes.

Anyone wanting more information can contact the Sainsbury's Consultation Hotline on (0800) 319 6162 or email consultation@sainsburys-whitby.co.uk

The plans will also be made available on the website www.sainsburys-whitby.co.uk
