CCTV bid for villages of Staithes and Hinderwell

HINDERWELL and Staithes could soon have its own CCTV camera in a bid to tackle anti-social behaviour and crime.

At a Hinderwell Parish Council meeting on Thursday PC Harry Baker told councillors he would look into getting costings for the equipment from Scarborough's Safer Communities Partnership.

Coun Norman Fowler said: "Business people wouldn't mind chipping in a few bob for a mobile CCTV unit in Staithes down the bottom."

If councillors approve the proposal the mobile camera would be funded with the help of grants and by local businesses, some of whom have already expressed an interest in contributong towards any equipment.

Signs would also have to be put up advising people CCTV is operating in the area.

Once costings are found parish councillors will be given a demonstration of the equipment themselves.
