Castle to host night of song

A MUSICAL extravaganza which helps some of the poorest people in the world will take place once again this year at Sneaton Castle.

A Song for Africa on Saturday aims to raise thousands of pounds for villagers in Burkina Faso in West Africa – one of the poorest countries in the world.

The event is being held for the fifth time at St Hilda’s Priory Chapel.

Among the performers are the 50 strong St Augustine’s Choir, the castle’s Order of the Holy Paraclete sisters, a local group called Botticelli’s Angels, Whitby Music Centre who also have a string group and senior and junior bands plus local singing teacher Sandra Stewart and her students.

The concerts have raised thousands of pounds over the years and a percentage of the money will also go to the sisters’ chosen charity which this year is the Jachie Eye Clinic in Ghana.

The money is distributed to the villagers in Burkina Faso through the World Evangelical Group (WEC). A raffle will also be held at the event with a top prize of 100 in cash.

Doors open at 6.45pm.

Tickets are available from Doodlepots in Skinner Street, Beck Veterinary Practice and Willison’s greengrocers in Baxtergate or they can be reserved by calling (01947) 603269.
