Caroline brings to life tales of WW2 gunners
A LEALHOLM woman has written a book to raise money for a memorial to gunners' from the Second World War.
Caroline Eddleston has written Gunner’s Tales and Memories of WW2 in collaboration with the Lowestoft Royal Artillery association.
The book contains real-life tales told by the gunners and offers an insight into life on the front lines during the war.
It is not the first time Mrs Eddleston (54), who also manages holiday cottages, has written a book having written an instruction manual for dental nurses in the 70s.
She says the reason for writing the book was inspired by a great love for her uncle Albert from Loftus who told her tales about the gunners.
The mother-of-one has ensured her book is in the public domain which means schoolchildren can use it for their history homework as it has no copyright.
The book contains diary entries made by soldiers who ran the risk of being court marshalled for even keeping the diaries.
The money will go to a memorial fund for the gunners.
Mrs Eddleston has written articles in the quarterly bulletin of the Military Historical Society (MHS) and, in 2007, became the first woman to win the Lummis Cup for her contributions to the quarterly journal known as the Bulletin.
The book is dedicated to Captain Davy, Cyril Hoskins and all the gunners who never made it home.
