Cargo shed slowly disappearing from landscape

WHITBY'S Endeavour Wharf cargo shed is finally disappearing from the landscape.

The shed started to come down on Wednesday to make way for 50 new car parking spaces.

John Riby, Scarborough Borough Council’s head of technical services, said: “Reinstatement of the service diversion trenches commenced on Monday 22 February and is now complete however, progress was impeded due to poor weather conditions.

“The demolition contractor commenced delivery/ erection of safety fencing on 1 March with demolition of the existing cargo shed.

“The anticipated time for removal of sheets (subject to weather conditions) is likely to take six to eight weeks.

“On completion of the sheet removal, demolition of the main frame should take between two and three weeks.

“Following demolition, works will be undertaken to establish the site for additional car parking (for approximately 50 spaces) and this is estimated to take approximately three weeks to complete.

“Therefore the estimated completion date is late May/early June this year."

The car park will be used until a workable alternative use for the site can be found.

This could include links with a new offshore windfarm being set up off the north east coast.
