Candidates to contest Coun Peter Booth's seat

FORMER borough councillor Bill Miller is one of five people to be put forward to serve on Whitby's Mayfield Ward.

A by-election has been called to fill Coun Peter Booth's seat on Thursday 11 February.

Coun Booth, who served on Scarborough Borough Council, died last year. Those who have been nominated for the ward, are:

Christopher Julian Cawood of Ainthorpe Lane, Danby

Steven James Leadley of Echo Hill, Sleights

Bill Miller of Gowlands Lane, Cloughton, Scarborough

Janet Peake of Prospect Hill, Whitby

Derek Robinson of Saxon Road, Whitby

Polling will take place at the following locations between 7am and 10pm on Thursday 11 February at:

Ruswarp Village Hall, High Street, Ruswarp

Nursery Unit at Stakesby CP School, Byland Road, Whitby

Library at Whitby Community College, Mayfield Road, Whitby

If anyone has recently moved into the area, there is still time for to get registered to vote.

Similarly, anyone who is unable to get to the polling station or would prefer to vote by post should contact Electoral Services on (01723) 232309.

The closing date for people registering to vote is 5pm on Wednesday, as is the closing date for completing and returning postal vote application forms.

However, new applications to vote by proxy must be received by 5pm on Wednesday 3 February and new emergency proxy applications can be received up to 5pm on 11 February, but they must be supported by a medical practitioner eg nurse, registered health professional, social worker or similar.
