Can you help Whitby's fishing school?

WHITBY'S fishing school is making an urgent appeal for help accommodating students following the largest intake of apprentices ever seen.

Interest in the Whitby & District Fishing Industry Training School has grown to such an extent that extra accommodation is now being sought to house the pupils.

Residents in the Whitby area with room for a lodger are being urged to contact the school, which is desperately seeking accommodation for two students due to start on the next course.

Anne Hornigold, of the Whitby Fishing School, said: "We have been running the school for eight years now and have been growing and growing.

"We have had dozens of boys pass through the school, many of which have gone on to become skippers.

"This year we have got the largest number of students we have ever had, and unfortunately have to find last minute accommodation for two of the boys.

"We are looking for something either permanent or temporary, ideally in a family home.

"We have a rigorous interview process so we know our students are the best candidates. If anyone has any queries they are more than welcome to contact me or I can go and visit them."

Students at the school come from all across the UK and are aged between 16 and 24.

* Anyone with available accommodation is asked to contact Mrs Hornigold on (01947) 825871 or 0774766608.
