Fire crews extinguished a camper van which was in danger of ‘exploding’ near Robin Hood’s Bay yesterday afternoon.

At around 11.20am North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service received an emergency call stating that a camper van containing small gas cyclinders was alight on the B1447 near Robin Hood’s Bay.

Fire engines from Robin Hoods Bay and Lythe were quickly sent to the incident, who found it burning fiercly when they arrived.

The fire was extinguished using four breathing apparatus, one hose reel jet and a 45mm jet.

The cause was believed to be due to an engine fault.
