POLICE are still treating the discovery of a body in a derelict house in Whitby as ‘unexplained’.

They can’t confirm whether the remains are that of a man or a woman or how long it has been in the property, off Broomfield Terrace.

On Sunday afternoon the body was taken away and police said a post mortem would be carried out “as soon as possible”. They said the priority was to identify the body.

They were called to the property at around 2pm on Saturday after the discovery by workmen who were carrying out renovations to the building.

The scene has been cordoned off and remains under police guard.
