Body found is that of local man

POLICE have revealed that the body found in a derelict house in Whitby at the weekend is thought to be that of a local man.

His body was discovered by workmen renovating the building, just off Broomfield Terrace, on Saturday afternoon.

They are not treating the death as suspicious but added it would be some time before they could release his identity.

A spokesman for North Yorkshire Police said: “Police enquiries have shown that it is believed to be the body of a local man.

“There is nothing to suggest that there are any suspicious circumstances at this time and a file is being prepared on behalf of the coroner.”
