'Bay the focus of beach pebble dash
MAY will be a busy month for the North East Yorkshire Geology Trust with a packed event programme including a new type of activity – the beach treasure walk or Pebble Dash in Robin Hood's Bay.
This will lead to a Secrets in the Landscape trail guide if the trust can raise the funding for it.
As part of its Quarry Project supported by the Aggregates Levy Sustainability Fund administered by Natural England, they are guiding four walks around quarries, raising awareness of the diversity quarries generate and the amazing resource they represent for industry and science.
They are also undertaking private commissions, putting together special walks or events to support history and local groups such as the North York Moors Association.
They have teamed up again this year with a history enthusiast to bring to light the mysteries of Filey Brigg and explain how the geology underlies everything and organised for Peter Wood to lead a journey to far-flung lands in search of diamonds.
They are pursuing more funding opportunities to further knowledge of sites worthy of further investigation, protection or active geoconservation.
May will also be an opportunity for you to get involved, enjoy geology, the landscape around you and find out more about the work the trust does protecting our rich geodiversity and sharing it.
