Bay Guides join centenary celebrations

Robin Hood's Bay Guides joined in the organisation's centenary with a presentation and display of 100 years of guides at Fylingdales Village Hall last Saturday.

They aimed to serve 100 cups of tea and biscuits as part of 100 challenges which are running through the centenary year.

Leader of the pack Sue Marsay said: “Guiding has been a part of village life for almost a century with the first Guides recorded in 1913 under the leadership of Miss Rebe Storm.

“As part of the celebrations we are collecting photographs and memories to build up a picture of Guiding in Robin Hood’s Bay throughout the century.

“We have pictures and correspondence relating to the first Guides 1913-1935.

“We also know there were Guides in the 1960s.

“Later, in the 1970s the leaders were Mrs Moira Rollason and Mrs Pat Bulmer, then there was a short lapse until 1982 when the present company opened.

“It would be lovely to fill in the gaps with your memories and photos.

“If you have anything to share please contact me, Kath Charter or any guide.”

There was an exhibition of photographs and uniforms. Brownies and Rainbows past and present, many who remembered Mrs Pollard who ran the Brownies for many years, were also invited to join them.

Anyone with any photographs or memories please call Sue on (01947) 824289.
