Award-winning orchestra heads for Whitby Pavilion
AN award-winning youth orchestra is making its first visit to Whitby later this month.
Young Sinfonia has a close association with the internationally acclaimed Northern Sinfonia, orchestra of The Sage, Gateshead – the spectacular Foster and Partners designed music centre which is Young Sinfonia's home base.
It has has teamed up with the youth orchestra of south west Sweden: the Vstra Gtalands Ungdomssymfoniker and will perform at Whitby Pavilion on Saturday 27 February.
The young musicians from the north east of England have spent their February half-term break braving sub-zero temperatures in Sweden in order to rehearse with the Swedish youth orchestra The Vstra Gtalands Ungdomssymfoniker which is made up of 75 to 80 young musicians from Sweden.
Directed by an English conductor, Simon Phipps, they meet twice a year for two intensive rehearsal weekends followed by a series of concerts.
And after a series of concerts in the Gothenburg area the combined orchestras return to the UK.
Each orchestra will perform independently before joining forces in Holst's mighty suite The Planets.
The performance is at 7.30pm. Tickets cost 7 for adults and 5 for concessions.
