Author's fondness for Whitby inspires book
WHITBY memories have influenced a new children's author.
Bolton-based author Will Hadcroft's Anne Droyd the android returns with her friends in her second adventure Anne Droyd and the House of Shadows
Excitement fills the air when Gezz's parents book a winter break in Whitby.
Her best friends Luke and Malcolm join them and when they find a way of including Anne Droyd too, it becomes the holiday of a lifetime.
Anne isn't a real girl at all, she's an android and only Gezz, Malcolm and Luke know the truth.
The story is set a few months after the events of Anne Droyd and Century Lodge which was published in June 2002.
Will Hadcroft was born in 1970 and grew up on a diet of classic children's adventure and science-fiction which has influenced his writing.
"My fondness for Whitby oozes from the pages of this new story," he said.
"I have taken artistic licence with some of the buildings and locations and restored the miniature railway to the North Promenade, a ride I loved as a toddler.
"There are strange goings on at their guest house and monsters roam the streets at night.
"The guest house is said to be on Khyber Pass.
"I got the idea from a building situated there that has turrets on its roof.
"In my story, though, the guest house is to the left of that building, on the grassy viewpoint."
