Attractions at Castleton Show

THE year's show season is drawing to an end but Castleton and Danby Floral and Horticultural Society's show this Saturday always proves to be a popular event.

In addition to the floral and horticultural classes other attractions include pony sports, a terrier show, a lurcher show and ferret racing as well as displays of classic and vintage engines, cars and motorbikes.

There's always plenty to attract the youngsters in the family and the many and varied schoolchildren's classes display skill and inventiveness.

There is also a cross country race for children up to the age of 11 and one for the 12 to 18 age group as well as a mini football tournament for youngsters aged 14 and under.

Children who enjoy dressing up and are aged up to 11 get the opportunity to enter the fancy dress competition and for those with ponies there are also two classes in the pony sports, one for those aged 12 and under and one for those aged 16 year and under.

Show secretary Linda Raw said there was a good number of entries for the Castleton Show Run and among newer attractions this year is the opportunity for budding archers to have a go at the sport.

There will also be display of birds of prey and locally bred alpacas, craft stalls and entertainment by the Downe and Outs Jazz Band. The show is on Saturday on the Castleton cricket field, the show field opens at noon and the tents at 1pm.

Admission is adults 2.50 including car parking, pensioners and children 1.
