Assembly web poll suggests 'go it alone' - HAVE YOUR SAY

A town assembly will be held tonight to discuss whether Whitby should continue to remain under the borough council's control.

The meeting, which has been called for by a small number of voters, will be held at Whitby's Pannett Art Gallery at 6.30pm.

If a third of those present decide there should be a vote on the issue then a parish poll, which is likely to cost around 3,000, will go ahead.

Members of the public are welcome to attend the assembly but only people whose names are included in the electoral register may speak or vote on any matter.

The Whitby Gazette has conducted its own ballot on our website.

We asked if a vote should be held on whether Whitby should be independent from Scarborough Borough Council.

A staggering 92% of the 230 people who have voted so far agreed there should be a vote with just 8% saying no.

l To have your say log on to www.whitbygazette.co.uk to take part in the vote.

The results of the Town Assembly will be on our website tomorrow following the meeting.
