Support for the mine

The proposal for potash/polyhalite mining in the Whitby area should be welcomed, and the proposed site for the mine head should be supported.

York Potash have taken a careful and considerate view of the environmental and transport issues, and the many consultation meetings, open to the public, have overwhelmingly supported the proposals.

As Mike Shardlow says (Whitby Gazette 1 February), let us welcome the chance to generate local employment, housing and opportunity.

Our communities have worried long enough about the drift away of young people, and the decline of traditional industries. Here is a chance to do something about it by supporting the mining project.
