Rebuild missing section of railway

Instead of reinstating the Pickering to Rillington Junction rail link may I propose an alternate solution?

Rebuild the missing section between Battersby (on the Esk Valley line) and Picton on the Eaglescliffe to Northallerton line.

This would give direct access to the East Coast Main line at Northallerton for Whitby, all the villages on the Esk Valley line and Stokesley.

If the Wensleydale Railway was also to achieve it’s aim of opening from Northallerton to the Settle and Carlisle at Garsdale, a through railway spanning two National Parks would be achieved.

Wouldn’t that be rather special for North Yorkshire tourism?
