Looking for the great niece of Hilda Porter
My name is John Foster and I am Chairman of the Barnsley James Hudson Taylor Group.
Hudson Taylor was the greatest Christian missionary in China.
The organisation that he founded has a current following of over 100 million people in China and the surrounding area. This man was born in the lowly Yorkshire mining town of Barnsley in 1830.
We are building a heritage trail to tell his story.
I am trying to find a Whitby woman, the great niece of Hilda Porter.
The Whitby lady contacted our group last year saying that she some of her great aunt’s old journals that may help our cause.
She left her telephone number but we lost it somehow.
The lady’s Great Aunt Hilda was also a Chinese Missionary with Hudson Taylor.
She attended Pitt Street Methodist Church in Barnsley.
On her return to England Hilda Porter founded the Methodist International Centre in London as a hotel to welcome visitors from overseas.
This Hotel still stands on Euston Street and is an award winning hotel favoured by many important visiting religious leaders when visiting London.
I do hope you can help.
