The results are now in for the North Yorkshire County Council local elections which took place across the district yesterday, with the Conservative party holding the majority of seats.

Conservative, 45 seats, (46)

Liberal Democrat, 8 seats, (9)

Labour, 7 seats (1)

Independent, 8 seats (14)

Liberal 2 seats (2)

UKIP 2 seats (0)

from a total of 72 seats

The majority party will meet next week to elect a leader, who will then nominate portfolio holders for the executive.

The newly-elected council will meet for the first time on Wednesday May 15, when members will be asked to ratify the names of the Leader, Deputy Leader, and Executive Members.

The following people have been elected to represent Whitby and district on North Yorkshire County Council.

Esk Valley Ward: Helen Swiers (Conservative)

Scalby and the Coast Ward: Derek Bastiman (Conservative)

Streonshalh Ward: Joe Plant (Conservative)

Mayfield Ward: David Chance (Conservative)
