Whitby’s offshore lifeboat led the way as a procession of yachts headed up by the inshore lifeboat sailed gracefully into the harbour for the traditional Regatta sailpast on Saturday afternoon.
Miss Regatta Alice Price and town mayor John Freeman waved to the large crowds along the pier ends and harbourside on board the George and Mary Webb lifeboat as it sailed from the sea into the harbour followed by members of Whitby Yacht Club and Whitby Boating Association, the Fisherman and Boatmen’s Society and the inshore lifeboat.
Whitby Yacht Club commodore Julia Drake took the salute onboard Raumo at the dredger moorings.
Inshore lifeboat helmsman Lee Harland said: “It was a great atmosphere. Everyone enjoyed themselves, we had the weather for it.
“When we came back in there was some nice sunshine.”
