PICTURED above is Mrs Ethel Partlett (nee Gale) who went on an Hawaiian cruise with her daughter Maria last month.
They visited the USS memorial site and it brought back poignant memories as Ethel was aged 16 when the attack on Pearl Harbour took place on 7th December 1941.
During the cruise she celebrated her 87th birthday.
Ethel, originally brought up in Whitby, enjoyed the 17-day cruise but said there is nowhere like Whitby and the cod just doesn’t taste the same.
Ethel still has ties with the area and continues to read the Whitby Gazette every week.
