A runner will aim to beat his personal best when he takes part in the Great North Run in memory of his dad with the aim of raising £1,000 for Cancer Research UK.
Jack Barber’s father John, former head at Hawsker School died in June last year after an 18 month battle with cancer.
Jack said: “He always encouraged my running, having run 10k and half marathon races in his younger days, and was delighted when I took part in the Great North Run in both 2004 and 2005 finishing in 1:36:10 and 1:36:17 respectively.
“ I am now training hard to beat my personal best this year, knowing my dad would have been very pleased to see me compete in this fantastic event once again.”
