A school project on World War Two became very real for Fyling Hall pupil Eve Harrison.

While clearing the attic of their old house in Fylingthorpe to make way for a new build her parents, Claire and Andrew discovered three gas masks in their original boxes, probably for two adults and a child and a camp bed.

The smaller mask has Elsie Bird and a Hull address handwritten on it.

Eve said: “My mum opened this really dark wooden box with brass, swirly handles and she found three gas masks, the two camp beds were just laid on the floor. Elsie might still be alive so my mum is hoping to find her. At school we put the masks on and laid on the bed.”
