a FRIENDLY dog and her owner have been helping getting tongues wagging at an elderly people’s home in the town.
Ted Smith of Esk Terrace and his labrador/collie cross Holly have been making weekly visits to elderly people living in 1 Larpool Lane Elderly Persons Residential Home.
Holly became a registered Pets As Therapy dog after a friend suggested to him that she had the perfect nature and she had to pass a suitability test carried out by a local vet.
Ted said: “As soon as Holly and I walk into the room, the residents brighten up and smile. Holly wags her tail and they are able to pat and stroke her giving them great pleasure.
“Some of the residents look forward to our visits and others are very pleased to see us.
“One particular resident became very fond of Holly. He has now gone home and we occasionally visit him with Holly and Coco, Holly’s mother and the gentleman is thrilled to see us.”
The visits bring back memories of residents own dogs and they are able to reminisce and tell stories to Ted.
Avril Paton, registered manager at the home, added: “The residents really do look forward to them coming. Holly is such a little angel.”
