A WHITBY fund-raiser has joined forces with Cancer Research UK and Channel 4 to launch a dynamic new fundraising campaign called Stand Up To Cancer.
Rachel Speight-McGregor, Cancer Research UK Area Volunteer Manager for Whitby, is urging men, women and children in the region to raise funds for vital research into the devastating disease.
Rachel (42) said: “We are calling on everyone in the region to follow our lead and Stand Up To Cancer. Most of us know people whose lives have been touched by the disease. This is an opportunity to join the fight and make a stand, to help more people survive.”
And Rachel has her own reason to Stand Up To Cancer. “I’ve lost five close members of my family in recent years. I watched my Auntie Janet fight secondary breast cancer during 2010, which she sadly lost in December that year. So I will be Standing Up to Cancer for my Auntie Janet and all those other people I come across on a daily basis who have been hit by this terrible disease. Research is the only way we can beat cancer and I’ll be Standing Up To Cancer by knitting and collecting in hundreds of scarves to sell on Friday 19 October.”
