A FUND-RAISING swim is taking place next week to support a charity that was close to Whitby murder victim Julie Davison’s heart.

Former Whitby Seals club member Bernie Wilson is completing the Great North Swim in Julie’s memory and will donate all her sponsorship money to the Rosemere Cancer Foundation.

Julie volunteered at the cancer charity for a number of years while living in Lancashire and Bernie, a former lifeguard at Whitby Leisure Centre and on the beach, said: “This charity was close to Julie’s heart and has been chosen by her family.

“The Rosemere Cancer Foundation raises funds to give the 9,000 new cancer patients diagnosed each year in Lancashire and South Cumbria the very best care to make their personal cancer journey and treatment process more comfortable and more effective with as little stress as possible.”

The Great North Swim is a one-mile swim in Lake Windermere and it will take place on Sunday (24 June).

A quiz will be held at Whitby Rifle Club tonight (22 June) at 8.30pm to help raise sponsorship money for Mrs Wilson.
