WHITBY in Bloom is calling for sponsors to help support the town’s bid in the nationwide Britain in Bloom competition.

The voluntary group has taken ownership of the town’s floral barrel displays and is asking for the help of residents and businesses.

Chris Roe, parks officer for Whitby, said: “Every year Whitby enters Yorkshire in Bloom and last year got a silver gilt award, so we actually won our category.

“We have been invited to represent Yorkshire in the Britain in Bloom competition, which is quite prestigious, so it’s good to get support and get people involved.”

Each barrel costs £70 each to sponsor.

The barrels are planted, maintained and watered with no cost to the sponsor, who will have their sponsorship recognised by a plaque on the barrel, produced by Rob Lamerton of Whitby’s Vinyl Signs.
