The extension of a garden room at a holiday cottage in Danby would have detracted from the character of the original building and setting according to the North York Moors National Park planning committee.

It refused the planning application, made by David Bartlett of Bolam, Darlington for a building at Blackmires , Danby Head.

The garden extension was intended to create sixteen square metres of additional floor space as well as two external timber staircases.

National park planning officers who carried out extensive research into the history of the building did not support the development and said that it would jar awkwardly with its traditional form.
