The fire brigade come to the rescue of a stricken gull in Baxtergate

FROM fighting fires to freeing birds there is never a dull moment for Whitby’s fire crews.

On Friday evening they were called to free a gull from the top of a building in Baxtergate.

It had got tangled up in netting which is thought to have been put there to discourage gulls and pigeons.

An eyewitness said it was the second time in 12 months the fire brigade had had to free a gull from the same piece of netting.
