Residents and businesses in Whitby who were affected by last year’s devastating tidal surge can still apply for financial grants to help prevent against future flooding.
The Government scheme is being administered by the borough council.
It is offering grants of up to £5,000 each to cover the costs of works such as flood protection barriers, moving electrics and other essential services above likely flood water levels and treating woodwork and walls.
If you have already had work done you are still eligible to apply to have the costs covered.
Jo Ireland, the council’s sustainable development manager, said: “We urge anyone affected to make a claim.
“Funding is only available until the end of March 2015 so we would encourage people to get in touch with us as soon as possible.
“Although we had a good response to date, we know there are businesses and residents that were affected but haven’t yet made a claim.”
