Rare birds sighted in town
THEiR arrival is usually a warning that cold and frosty weather is on the way.
These waxwings with their beautiful plumage and pink crests, were spotted in Whitby recently.
Native to Scandinavia they are not often seen in the UK and were captured by John Locker, an aeronautical engineer in the Royal Navy.
He was at his parent’s house in Eskdale Road with his brother Jack when they saw them in a tree.
Mr Locker (26) said: “There were eight birds in total feeding on berries in my parents and the neighbour’s garden.
“My mother says she saw 10 in her garden the following day.”
