WHITBY’S Pannett Park is one of the best in the country - and that’s official.

On Monday it received the Green Flag award which is a sign to visitors that the park is well maintained and well managed.

It also recognises the facilities in the park and that it provides a high-quality green space in the town.

Pannett Park is one of 1, 288 parks and green spaces across the country receiving the Green Flag Award or a Community Award this year.

Chair of the Friends group, Coun Joe Plant, said: “This is another great achievement for Pannett Park.

“The Friends of Pannett Park and Scarborough Borough Council’s parks team have done another fantastic job to gain the Green Flag for the second year in a row.

“On behalf of the Friends I would like to pay a big tribute to the park staff and the area manager Chris Roe for all their hard work and support.”

Andy Skelton, Head of Environmental Services for Scarborough Borough Council added: “I am delighted that the hard work and dedication shown by the Friends Group and Environmental Services staff have been recognised by the award of the prestigious Green Flag.

“This award underlines our commitment to provide high quality, welcoming and safe green spaces throughout the borough.”
