PANNETT Park has once again received a Green Flag award, but now the Friends of Pannett Park are calling on residents to help it win yet another prize.
The People’s Choice award is an annual online vote that gives the public the power to decide which one of the 1,290 parks or green spaces flying the Green Flag award or Community award should be named site of the year.
Area parks officer Chris Roe said: “We all know how great the park is but it would be nice for it to be recognised around the region.
“We’re about 18 votes off the lead so we need a big push.”
Coun Joe Plant, chair of the Friends of Pannett Park, said: “We’ve learned a lot.
“Everyone has worked hard and it’s fantastic for the town.
“We don’t want to sit back on our laurels, we just want to keep moving on and make it a top tourist attraction for Whitby.”
Paul Todd, Green Flag Award scheme manager said: “We know how important having access to quality parks and green spaces is to the public.
“The People’s Choice Award gives them the chance to decide which park or green space deserves the accolade of the nation’s favourite.
“With 1,290 award-winning sites to choose from competition is fierce so we urge everyone to get voting if they want to see their local park pick up the award.”

Voting closes on Monday (12 Sept) and the winner will be announced on 21 September.
