A team of litter pickers, led by local landlord Yorkshire Coast Homes (YCH) spent a sunny afternoon clearing the area surrounding the Eastside Community Centre on Abbots Road on Thursday 29 September, in order to make it a more pleasant environment for everyone.

The team consisted of staff members from YCH along with colleagues from Willmott Dixon.

A skip was placed on-site for the day, and residents in the area were given the opportunity to dispose of any unwanted large items for free.

Community Involvement Officer, Stephanie Lake stated that the litter pick was the start of many community events to be held in Whitby.

“Today’s litter pick is an effort by Yorkshire Coast Homes and our partners to do something about improving the area for the benefit of everyone. Many of our residents state that litter is an ongoing issue, so we needed to start tackling this problem.

“We are planning to carry out many more activities throughout Whitby and the surrounding areas. We hope that our residents will get involved, and we will let them know what is planned for each area in order that they can join in. We are encouraging residents to approach us with their suggestions and ideas”.
