Latest: Demolition of fourth home begins on Whitby’s Aelfleda Terrace

Aelfleda Terrace update

WORK is continuing to demolish Whitby’s Aelfleda Terrace this week with the fourth home on the row now starting to be dismantled brick by brick.

Five homes in the 140-year-old terrace of former jetworkers cottages are being pulled down after independent engineers condemned the homes following a landslide.

Donations continue to pour in for Jude Knight, the only resident of the terrace who has lived there for 26 years after a fund was set up for her by Whitby Gazette photographer Ceri Oakes and Trudie Ward who owns Dotty About Vintage in Church Street.

An interview with Trudie, Jude and Whitby Gazette editor Jonathan Stokoe, is due to be shown tonight from 6.30pm on BBC1’s Look North.

Don’t miss Friday’s Whitby Gazette for an update about the homes, more about the fund for Jude and the latest about the landslip at the back of Fortune’s Kippers.

There will also be a report from an extraordinary meeting of Whitby Town Council who meet tonight (Tuesday) to discuss the landslides.
