Chance to join the park team

THE authority which governs the North York Moors National Park is appealing for applicants to fill two vacancies on their team of members.

The influential group plays a major role in shaping the development of the authority and appointments will be made by Caroline Spelman, the secretary of state for environment, food and rural affairs.

Jim Bailey, chairman of the North York Moors National Park Authority, said:

“Members play a key role in setting policies and priorities for the national park authority and ensuring that money is well spent. There is no denying that our new recruits join us at a challenging time in our history.

“But there is also much to be positive about including a new management plan and the 60th anniversary of the North York Moors National Park.

The deadline for applications is 13 February and candidates will be expected to have a good awareness of issues affecting National Parks generally and a clear understanding of National Park purposes.

The NYMNPA’s 22 members are responsible for big decisions on the Moors’ strategic management, including wildlife, education, planning, recreation and communications.

The appointments will start in May and are initially for up to four years.

Application forms and further details are available online at http://publicappts.defra.gov.uk
