A LOCAL school has received a silver standard environmental award for its recent recycling efforts.
Staff and students at Hawsker cum Stainsacre C of E Primary School impressed Scarborough Borough Council with their environmental work.
As well as recycling used paper and card into blue bins, the students also collected old and used clothing for donation to the Salvation Army, and went litterpicking on the old railway.
Headteacher Carl Hardwick said: “We’ll continue to recycle in future, in the hopes of acquiring a gold certificate.
“For instance, we’ve recently started collecting batteries for recycling.”
He added: “We’re also hoping to install solar panels as a means of generating clean, renewable energy.”
