Students at Eskdale and Caedmon are looking to the future following a large event held at Sneaton Castle.
The careers fair was entitled ‘Inspiring the Next Generation’ and offered students early advice from a range of educational institutions, training providers and employers.
Flo Sawer is careers co-ordinator at Eskdale School and she said she was extremely grateful to all the advisors who came and spoke to students.
She added: “Local employers gave up their time to support the students, which is invaluable and very much appreciated by the schools.”
All Year 9 students from both schools came to the event during their afternoon lessons and Flo added: “The students were all very positive about the advice and information that they received and the advisors were very impressed with the atitude of the students and the mature questions they were asking.”
Nearly 40 stands allowed students to enquire about the range of options available post-16, both via the apprenticeship route and further education courses. Options post-18 at university and via employment were also discussed.
After school, parents accompanied Year 7 and 8 students to support the event.
There were also talks from by the University of York, York St John and Hull University about the facts of going to university. Flo said parents were grateful that issues such as finance were demystified and concerns over the value of higher education allayed.
