THREE high flying Whitby Community College students have won places at the country’s most prestigious universities.

Madeleine Hann has been offered a place at University College of Oxford to read earth science, Chloe Hammond has the chance of a place at Girton College in Cambridge to study natural sciences and Kevin Gallon has been offered a place at Oxford’s Wadham College to study physics.

The sixth formers are all studying A-Levels and have been predicted top A Level grades.

Madeleine is studying maths, further maths and chemistry at A Level and said: “My teachers are all really supportive and are always ready with cake to cheer us up when we’ve been working too hard. I am looking forward to meeting lots of people who love Earth Sciences as much as I do.”

Chloe Hammond who is studying A Levels in biology, chemistry, maths and further maths added: “What excites me most about going to Cambridge is the opportunities that will be available to me and the people I will meet whilst I am there and being taught the newest information by leaders of their field.”

Fellow student Kevin is doing five A Levels at college - maths, further maths, physics, electronics and music and said he is really looking forward to continuing his physics studies at a higher level.

“The college organised extra tuition to help us prepare for the entrance exams and interviews and the teachers are always willing to help.”
