Youngsters have learnt first aid and basic life support skills thanks to a scheme which took place in Whitby during Child Safety Week.

Pupils from Ruswarp aged 10 and 11 were among those taking part in the Scarborough Injury Minimisation Programme for Schools which first started in 2001.

The children went on a two and a half hour visit to Whitby Hospital where they had a tour of the Minor Injuries Unit and were taught how to prevent and deal with the most common accidents children their age are likely to have.

They were also taught how to perform basic life support and how to put people in the recovery position.
