CHILDREN from East Whitby Primary School got more than they bargained for when they went on a trip to Hollybush Farm.
Tim Lawn was showing pupils around his farm at Littlebeck when year six pupil Jay Neasham noticed a cow was giving birth.
The children and their teachers were enthralled at being able to watch the calf being born with some assistance from Mr Lawn – who represents Esk Valley ward on the Scarborough Borough Council – who had been up all night already lambing.
They had actually gone to the farm to see some of the newborn lambs and some of the sheep due to give birth to lambs.
Some of the lambs the children were able to see were as young as a few hours old and pupils were able to bottle feed and cuddle them.
Following the treat of being allowed to sit on a choice of three different tractors the children were introduced to a family of pigs which are the pets of Coun lawn’s daughter, Penny.
